Wow, this video has great information. I wish they would have played this video during teacher orientation when I joined the district. I had no idea the amount of tools and resources which UEN provides. There are always advertisements about their resources, but they never feature a resource or a section of UEN which is what they need to advertise. I think if they advertised a specific section and the types of tools you can use on UEN they would have more teachers using the site for planning at a minimum. While following along the website and video, I bookmarked several pages such as Pioneer, thinkfinity, lesson plans page for secondary science.
While the video had good content, it was a bit hard to follow along on the new website. To be more effective, this video should be updated using the new site so viewers can more easily follow along.
While perusing the site, I found it easier to find lesson plans, labs and other information specific to secondary science by searching by subject rather than through general resources. There is so much information you need to be specific in your search to narrow down your potential list of resources and tools.
Some of my favorite resources which I discovered today on UEN are:
Pioneer Library - Liked - the amount of resources, including videos for lessons and for my student's own research. I am excited to share this with them when we are in the computer lab.
Thinkfinity - Liked - The coorelation between Utah standards and national standards. Ease of use. Online curriculum. Great for accessing resources for classroom, school search is very user friendly. I love the What's Happening Today in the history pull down. I like that you can find professional development here as well.
Apps 4 Edu - What's there not to like? This is the best app when you are teaching and want to engage your students in an iPad lab with a fun app. The search function is awesome!
National Geo - how can you be a science teacher and NOT love this site? Searching by age, grade, subject, infographic, reference, mapping, activities and media for lesson plans along with current issues and events in real life applications.
Wonderopolis - I've been looking for a good, fun and interesting activity for my students to use during our homeroom period and this is it! I'm going to have one of my students lead this on my iPad on our apple TV while I'm taking role and signing planners.
