Nearpods, Quizlet and Plickers
Are three of my favorite things....when talking about online assessments.
Nearpods are a great easy online tool to use with students. Pros: easy to use, can download others for free, can buy pre-made Nearpods on a particular subject. Cons: some of the bundles are expensive, Nearpod does not work in all browsers, students would need internet access at home to do Nearpod homework.
Quizlet is fun from the front page onward. Karen and I liked watching Quizlets around the world be created in South America, Austrailia and Asia. The most interesting geographic pins were students in Japan learning Spanish, students in Austrailia learning their own history and students in South America learning French. As an educator it was fascinating to find out what other educators around the world are currently teaching in their classrooms. Pros: easy to use, options for student answers, can download other quizlets and modify them saving time for lesson planning, students can instantly see their grades. Cons: students need online access.
Plickers - who wouldn't love these? Instantly scanning a classroom of students and having data on your mobile device within seconds is such a valuable tool. Pros: can make questions directly on Plicker website or you can just poll your students on a verbal question asked in class, can download and look at Plicker reports of your students, easy for students to use, fun for students / keeps them engaged. Cons: Damaged cards won't work and students in subsequent class periods won't have a card, cards will need to be replaced with specific cards if lost or damaged, students must be entered by typing in names, no excel import is available, help page is not very helpful - only answers basic questions, could not find app on
