This is one of the topics which I wanted to learn more about in class. I haven't had much exposure to making videos with the exception of making point and shoot videos on my iPad and uploading and monetizing them on YouTube. My learning curve with this class is mostly audio files and learning how to use Garage Band or another audio app.
Stop motion is really fun. I remember my daughter having a stop motion camp when she was about 10 and we still have the video her group made in claymation about a bank robber getting caught and put in jail. Its amazing how easy it is now to make a stopmotion with any one of the three apps we viewed: iStopMotion, Komo Komo are my two favorite. These apps seem to be the most user friendly and have the best options for stop motion film making.
Storyboarding is the most important aspect of making a video or film. I had owned a production and marketing company for a few years. We always made sure we had the story all planned out before shooting. If you don't have the plan ahead of time, your shoot will end up being more costly than originally planned.
Digital storytelling is an exciting medium to show and share a story. They are easy to build and can get your message across with emotion and feeling. Its an easy way to connect to the viewer. With the internet, you can share your story with hundreds, thousands and even millions of viewers.
There are 6 elements of good digital storytelling: 1. living inside the story, 2. unfolding lessons, 3. developing creative tension, 4.economizing the story told, 5. showing not telling, 6. craftsmanship.
Seven steps are necessary in the storytelling process, they are divided into 3 parts: Pre-production, production and Post-production. Pre-production includes the first 3 steps: Step 1 Writing Script, Step 2 Planning Project, Step 3 Organizing your digital folders. Production includes the next two steps: Step 4 Recording voiceover, Step 5 Gather media, create and edit your work, which includes use of copyright uses. Post-production includes the last 2 steps: Step 6 Creating rough cut, first cut and final cut, Step 7 Celebrate with an opening and much applause!
