Presented in class today #36 and #39. I thought it would be a good idea for us to know ahead of time what we are going to present on because I would have loved to take some pictures of my kids in class showing the non-examples and examples of Do-it-again and 100% compliance.
What to Do - I use this everyday and I think this is a great teaching practice to have in your teacher skillbox. Strong voice using few words is very highly effective. Quiet power - wait for everyone to be quiet.
Teach Like a Champion is a great resource for teachers who want to work efficiently and reduce the amount of behavior issues in the classroom. The classroom is run more effectively and the teacher has more time to instruct because the of the effects of using these tools.
Just this past week I had been thinking of the movie where the young, new teacher (she wears a pearl necklace) is hired at a tough inner city school in California. I can't remember the name of this movie off the top of my head, but its my favorite "teacher movie".
When principals, administration or the public say that certain kids just "can't be taught" that simply just isn't true. Many teachers whom teach many subjects inspire their students on a daily basis. These teachers are the 2% who know just "how" to get through to students.
I have been working more toward that model in my past two years of teaching students. Gain their respect and win them over, students will work 110% for you. That's a given that stretches across any socioeconomic barriers, age groups and demographics.
There is value in the development phase. You can see all the factors when you pick apart a lesson plan and look at all the components of your lesson plan and evaluate how the plan will work and how you can incorporate cross-curricular material into your thematic unit. The process forces you to be creative and step outside your comfort zone. With science, I am limited to what I can teach and lessons which are taught with my unit as they are dictated by the STEM protocol, however, I have found other components which I can easily incorporate at my grade level which are fun, interesting and engaging for my students.
Creating this work in class is wonderful as I feel that I work much more efficiently in class than I do at home. Having the instructors in class to assist with the creation of these parts of the ADDIE project lets me create better projects in less time as I can change and improve my work with the critique of the instructors.
This was the easiest phase to date since I already had the lesson planned out in my head and written down on my Analysis phase. I finished the design phase, edited my tech website, edited my teacher website for student feedback (one component of my design) and uploaded all information on dropbox and my website.
I feel that having time in class to work keeps me more focused on my work and gives me a large chunk of work time, which allows me to complete a large amount of work in one allotted time. Having both instructors to critique my work is very helpful, as I can make changes while I'm in the process of creating my work instead of having to come back to my work at a later time. This makes my work time more efficient.
